Norled hybrid catamarans.
Norled AS has ordered two 24 m hybrid catamarans from the Norwegian shipyard GS Marine. This pioneering project from Norled will be the first plugin hybrid catamarans used in commercial traffic.
The entirely new Generation 3 battery system from Grenland Energy AS has been chosen due to their significantly low weight to capacity ratio. The catamaran will have a carbon sandwich hull its general high performance is based on cutting edge technology in all disciplines. A light-weight battery construction featuring forced air-cooling represents a further new milestone for maritime hybrid solutions. The Generation 3 standard “5 levels of safety” is also opening new doors in regard of class requirements.
The hybrid catamarans will use batteries when operating close to shore while the diesel engines will be used to achieve top speed.
The eco-friendly profile of Norled is not kept to slogans and boardroom visions. As one of Norway’s largest ferry and express boat operators, they actively invest in technology which places their fleet in an economic and environmentally leading position.
